Begin Again

I guess that lately is all about music. Tonight I watched a movie that has been on my list for a long while: Begin Again.

The movie is about (as you might guess) new beginnings and how to deal with a past that will always be with us. In this specific instance, music is the driving force behind all these new beginnings, with new friends and old loves coming back together.

I was also intrigued by this movie after reading that Keira Knightley recorded most of the songs in the sound track with her own voice. This was definitely a surprise – a pleasant one – discovering a very soft and warm voice.

The lyrics of the songs that make up her “open air” album (I won’t say more not to spoil the movie) are very passionate and can be seen as yours, by which I mean that you can easily see part of your life adventures in them.

My favorite track is Lost Stars which also serve as a sort of continuous thread along the movie itself, closing the circle of the new beginnings.

I suggest you listen to the song while reading the lyrics below, it’s a good way to say goodbye to today and get ready for a new tomorrow.

Please don’t see just a girl caught up in dreams and fantasies.
Please see me reaching out for someone I can see.
Take my hand, let’s see where we wake up tomorrow.
Best laid plans; sometimes are just a one night stand.
I’d be damned; Cupid’s demanding back his arrow.
So let’s get drunk on our tears and…

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young.
It’s hunting season and this lamb is on the run.
Searching for meaning…
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

Who are we? Just a speck of dust within the galaxy.
‘Woe is me’ if we’re not careful turns into reality.
Don’t you dare let all these memories bring you sorrow.
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer.
Turn the page; maybe we’ll find a brand new ending.
Where we’re dancing in our tears and…

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young.
It’s hunting season and this lamb is on the run.
We’re searching for meaning…
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?

I thought I saw you out there crying…
I thought I heard you call my name…
I thought I heard you out there crying…
We’re just the same…

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young.
It’s hunting season and this lamb is on the run.
We’re searching for meaning…
But are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
Are we all lost stars trying to light up the dark?
