It’s all about sharing!

It’s a new month and therefore there is a new Ride Radar update out!

This time I had two main focus:

  1. more data for parks geeks
  2. fun ways to share future and past trips to Disney parks

More data

Inside each park there is now a new Compass tab. In keeping with the Compass section that I’ve added in each ride, you can now get a quick snapshot of historical and future data points. Things like:

  • planned closures for rides (these are also displayed on each ride page when applicable)
  • longest average waits recorded and reliability stats
  • best day of the week to visit based on major attractions average wait times

Hopefully with these new data you can get some extra and fun insights on your favourite parks and rides; maybe even some help when planning your next trip! A couple of disclosures:

  • planned closures are gathered from a few online sources as Disney doesn’t normally make this data available easily outside their apps
  • longest averages and reliability are both based on my own (growing) data set of observed down time and waits, so it will continue to evolve and will for sure differ from other data you may see on other sites

Sharing is caring!

Next on the agenda: sharing! I know how everyone loves to share on various social platforms about their Disney trips – it’s so very fun and I do it all the time. So why not build something inside the app to make this process seamless??

With the new update, once you create an upcoming trip, a new fun and bold button will give you access to a few templates (both portrait and square – optimised for Instagram), making it super easy to make all your friends jealous about your next trip. You can easily share on device or share directly from within the app.

But what about after your trip?? All those fun photos you’ve taken during the day deserve to be seen and shared! Relax, I’ve got a feature for you!

Simply go into the settings, into your past visits and choose the day you want to share – a new popup will ask you to give the app access to the camera roll on your phone (don’t worry this is the standard iOS permission, photos never leave your device) and voila: all the images you took at a park on that day will be shown there (which in itself is an easy way to browse parks specific photos!).

On top of that, a similar bright coloured button will start a quick video generation (a vertical video optimised for Instagram) – you can even pick your soundtrack from 3 available options (more to come soon).

Make sure to do as the message suggest – keep the tab open while the video is generating otherwise it will pause and you’ll have to start again!

If you want, you can listen to the 3 available songs here:

Sunlit Carousel

Carousel of Clouds

The Morning Procession

BTW all 3 songs were generated with Google Gemini – fairly easy process for simple AI generated short soundtracks, even on the free plan!

In Summary

I hope you’ll enjoy this new update – I’m having so much fun developing this little app, and believe me, the roadmap is still full of new and wonderful surprises!
